The Environmental Working Group just released the 2026 lists of the most and least contaminated produce foods by pesticides. Take a look:
These foods are okay to buy conventional as they show little to no contamination in the supply at present.
01

Pineapples
02Sweet Corn (fresh and frozen)
03Avocados
04Papaya
05Onion
06Sweet Peas (frozen)
07Asparagus
08Cabbage
09Cauliflower
10Watermelon
11Mangoes
12Bananas
13Carrots
14Mushrooms
15Kiwi
These foods should be bought organic if possible, as they contain the highest measured contaminants in current supply!
01

Spinach
04Grapes
05Nectarines
06Peaches
07Cherries
08Apples
10Pears
11Potatoes
Food for thought:
The inclusion of potatoes in this year's dirty dozen list is both intriguing and unsettling, considering that potatoes are the most consumed vegetable per capita in the US.
If organic prices are outside of your grocery budget, consider buying frozen. These options are cheaper, last longer, and are picked at peak harvest. They're often more nutrient dense than their fresh counterparts!
Always, always wash your produce well before consumption. Screenshot the info below for easy reference after your next haul:
Berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
→ Quick rinse right before eating (don’t pre-wash—they mold faster)
Apples, cucumbers, peppers, zucchini, citrus
→ 20–30 sec rinse + rub with hands
Bagged greens (arugula, spinach, salad kits)
→ Already washed, but if you’re sensitive (histamine/gut), give a quick rinse anyway
Fresh herbs (cilantro, parsley, basil)
→ Swish in bowl of cold water, shake dry, store wrapped in paper towel
Remember, what you invest in quality food now, pays you back with interest when it comes to your long term health and vitality. Happy grocery shopping!
